Travel Information

TANZANIA

This picturesque country, 930,704  sq  kms in size, lies just south of the Equator on the East cost of Africa. Its population of over 40 million people come from 120 different tribes, all contributing to the country's rich cultural heritage.

PASSPORT & VISA
All visitors to Tanzania require a return or onward ticket and a valid passport with an entry or re-entry visa, duly endorsed. Visas are not required for visitors from some commonwealth countries and other specified countries. Visas can be obtained from any Tanzania Diplomat Missions or Consulate abroad, and at main entry points including international airports, sea ports, and border points.

LANGUAGE
The National language is Kiswahili. English is widely spoken and is the language of the tourist trade and other business.

TIME DIFFERENCES
Tanzania oberves greewich mean time(GMT) +3hours through out the year.

AIR TRAVEL
Several International airlines operate in and out of Tanzania serving Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airport. Travel within the country is provided by several regional Airlines including the national airlines, Air Tanzania

CUSTOMS
Personal effects including binoculars, cameras, film, may be imported (temporarily) free of duty. A custom bond may be demanded from visitors bringing in professional video/filming equipment, radios, tape recorder and musical instrument to ensure the goods are re-exported. Firearms require a special permit that should be obtained in advance. Visitors buying local handicrafts must keep cash sales receipts for presentation to customs on departure.

ACCOMODATION
Standard services range from up-market to tourist. Deluxe and first class hotels are found in the main cities and the resorts on the coastline of the country. Luxurious lodges are set in exotic locations, while comfortable tented camps are found in the main game parks.

CAR HIRE
Self-drive vehicles are available mainly for local touring or tarmac use. 4x4 vehicles for safaris require a driver.

DRIVING
An international license is required. Plan safaris carefully, ensuring your vehicle is road worthy with two spare tyres, an operational jack and tool kit. Carry extra fuel, spares and water.

CLIMATE
Tanzania is a land without winter. The hilly country in the north has a pleasant climate from June to September. The coast is generally hot and humid with an average temperature of 30 degrees celsius. The main rainy season is from March to May, the hottest months being from October to February.

PHOTOGRAPY
A telephoto lens is essential for good game pictures. Most lodges and hotels have facilities for recharging batteries for video and digital cameras.  Please respect the local people and only photograph them with their permission. Please be strongly advised never to attempt to take photos or border posts, airports, persons in uniforms and military installations where photography is strictly prohibited.

HEALTH
It is advisable to take out emergency medical and health insurance prior to entering Tanzania. Covering accidents, illness or hospitalization for the period of your stay.
A yellow fever vaccination is required for all travelers to Tanzania. The bilharzias parasites are found in many lakes, streams and rivers on the continent. Avoid swimming in them!

Visitors are advised to take anti-malaria tablets and make use of mosquito nets and insect spray where provided.

CURRENCY
There is no restriction on the importation of foreign currency. Foreign currency can be exchanged for local currency (Tanzanian Shilling) at banks and bureau de changes. Changing money on the street is prohibited and dangerous. Payment for safari services must be made in foreign currency.

CREDIT CARDS
Although some hotels accept credit cards, they are not widely used. It is strongly recommended that you come with an adequate amount of Travelers Cheques (safer) and cash. In places where cards are accepted, surcharges of between 11.8% - 15% or more should be expected.

ELECTRICITY
Power supply is 220/240 volt 50 cycles. Plugs are usually 13-amp 3 pin square (British type).

LUGGAGE
Safari vehicles and small aircrafts provide limited space for luggage. It is therefore recommended to travel with light bags since bulky suitcases might not be taken on board, soft sided canvas duffle bags are best.

DEPATURE TAX
An airport departure tax of U.S $30 is levied when leaving the country by Air and is included in air tickets.

RESERVATIONS AND CANCELLATIONS

A 30% non- refundable deposit is required at the time of booking with the balance to be paid at least 45 days before the tour begins. For last minutes reservations conditions will change.

CANCELLATIONS
Prior to tour departure, for cancellations received by us in writing:-

From booking time to
45 days prior:

30% tour cost

44-21 days prior: 

50% tour cost

21-7   days prior:  

75% tour cost

6  days or less prior or no show

 100% tour cost

There are no refunds for unused portions of the program, and refunds will not be made to clients who do not complete the tour for any reasons whatsoever. Amendments made to the itinerary once paid for may result in additional costs.
